Beavers Bend State Park Log Replacement and Chinking Restoration
Beavers Bend State Park, which is located in Hochatown, Oklahoma, surrounds Broken Bow lake and runs along the Mountain Fork river in the mountains of Southeast Oklahoma. Lush mixed hardwoods and pine forest cover all of the recreation area the the waters edge of Broken Bow lake.
We worked on two cabins located within the state park. They were both 1930's CCC constructed log cabins. The Nature Center, known as the bath house originally, was used by the CCC workers. Later in its life it was turned into a nature exhibit to display the local wildlife and fauna/flora.
The other cabin Cabin 47 is presently used as a rental cabin. Someone had told us that it was the said house of a higher ranking person and/or a library.
Between the two log cabins there was 500 plus feet of log replacement and replication along with chinking. There was also a few hundred feet of chinking repair where the old chinking was loose or had already fallen out. All of the logs used in the log replacement were of a natural growth taper Southern Yellow Pine. The logs were all kiln dried and some of the diameters of the logs were up to 17 inches.
The job entailed the demolition of foreign materials from the last repairs along with rotted wall logs, log rafters, log carrier beams, log posts, wall ties, and chinking.

We are proud to be a part of preserving some local and state history as well as allowing for current and future generations to enjoy the great outdoors in such a beautiful state park.
