Log Home Restoration Nationwide
Finishing New Log Homes
For new log structures location and environment are the first things taken into consideration. This enables us to choose the best exterior product to suit with the environment around your structure. Both the interior and exterior need to be hand sanded (ozzied) in order to remove milling glaze, dirt, contractor marks and ensure a smooth, splinter-free surface that is easy to clean both inside and out. Borate preservatives are then applied, in a 2 coat process, to bare wood around structure.
Once the log home is dry both inside/outside we apply one coat of log home stain to fully coat the logs. Next we apply chinking/caulking before the second coat of stain is applied (This step can be taken last if classic chinking style is chosen). Finally the second coat of stain is applied along with a U.V. inhibitor to help the stains longevity against the elements.
Tip: If your log home is vented and sealed properly it should stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Ceilings constructed with a lamination of drywall 1st and then covered with tongue and groove board perform much better energy wise. Ceilings put up without drywall tend to be much draftier costing the homeowner hundreds of dollars more a year to heat/cool.
Log Home Maintenance
Intensified Wood Restoration will also set up a log home maintenance program to identify hotspots and help the homeowner/s understand the actual costs down the road and understand where the problems will arise if log home maintenance is neglected.
