We restored this log cabin a few years ago. The area where this log cabin is located is beautiful. It was built on solid stone and the logs were brought to where it stands during the winter when the lake was frozen. The homeowner grew up in this cabin during the summers and helped to build it back in the 1920's when the orginal cabin had burnt down.

This cabin was preserved properly throughout the years but the preservative used had built up over time and had become burnt from the sun. This left the logs with a course and raised grain surface that needed to be ozzied (sanded). The caulking that was used was cracking and failing on all of the log walls especially on the Southern and Western walls. We had to ozzy (sand) the entire building to get the logs back to how they looked when it was first built. Overall we took off a 1/4" of soft wood that had been decayed by the sun over the years. This left the logs smooth, hard, and brought out the grain of the wood. We used Sashco Capture - Chestnut log home stain along with Sashco Conceal - Santa Fe Trail log home caulking.

The homeowners were amazed at the transformation. This log cabin will continue to remain in good standing condition for over a hundred more years as long as the maintenance is kept up on throughout the years. We recommend Sashco and Perma-Chink products over every other stain and caulking out there simply because of the ease of maintenance. These products use a final clear coat for maintenance and protection of the colorant. This helps to avoid coat build up and the darkening of logs due to coat build up since the colorant is only used when needed. These products are water based and environmentally friendly.
